Over ten years ago, I wrote a book about American Empire. The research was daunting but Google and the internet were still relatively untouched and libraries weren't yet banning books. I was well aware of what kind of reception such a message would have in The Land Of The Free so with the old adage in mind, "If you're going to tell the truth. you better make people laugh otherwise they'll kill you." I put it in a picture book with an Alice In Wonderland / Gulliver's Travels / Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas format wrapped up in a "Children's Book Of American Empire" subtitle. Needless to say, in spite of 160 hand painted whimsical illustrations of a young man's fantastical journey of illumination complete with a 50 page bibliography that included photocopies of The CIA's final typed report of it's 1953 over throw of Iranian democracy no one was in the least bit interested aside from a few friends who read it and never spoke to me again.
I've looked askance at the official American view of itself, from magnanimous white wigged forefathers, peaceful settlers and loving Franciscan Friars to Commie fighting warriors ever since the latter tried to ship me off to Vietnam to die in a foxhole.
I hit the Sixties right, thank God, from ending the war to Peace and Love, uplifting and hopeful times if it weren't for the other end of the stick, from JFK to Bobby to Medgar Evers to Malcom X to Martin Luther King, cities on fire and The Whole World Watching. Maybe there wasn't an end to endless war, to prejudice and greed. Maybe the stories we'd been fed since childhood were lies, conspiracies to keep us quiet. When we began to question this official line - who got us into Vietnam, who killed these heroes, we were labeled by the official American view of itself as conspiracy theorists. Fucking brilliant, labeling American citizens looking into conspiracies as conspirators.
That little spark of genius worked quite well for quite some time but when the boot on our necks graduated into clenched fists, almost every one began looking almost every where to try and make sense of our breathing problem. Then suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere an avalanche of insanity, ideas, suggestions, theories poured out onto the sizzling grill of the internet and nothing made sense and everything made sense and all were dismissed as conspiracies. Fucking brilliant, drowning American citizens looking into conspiracies in conspiracies, real events drowned in imagined events, truth drowned in fiction all jumbled together as conspiracy theories that only Fox News and CNN and MSNBC and The World News tonight can put right. JFK killed by the CIA and Dulles and MLK by the FBI became Qanon. Jeffery Epstein, Jean Luc Burnel, Ghislaine Maxwell, Prince Andrew, Trump, Bill Clinton, George Soros become the Rothchilds and the International Jewish Bankers. Hillary Clinton, Pizza Gate and the Frazzledrip Theory become 911 and A Pearl Harbor Type Event, Alex Jones and InfoWars, Falon Gong and The Epic Times. Evidence against becomes evidence of validity and vice versa. Adrenochrome Harvest, Space Lasers, Anti Vaccines and the Jab of Death, The American Empire's one hundred year strangle hold on the Third World, GMOs are bad for you, GMOs are good for you. The End Times, shake do not stir.
And the answer to this madness, the only way to pull us out of our insanity is to believe, to believe in the American Way, the Patriotic Way, the Biblical Way, the Fascist Way.
God Bless The United States Of America and God Protect Our Troops.
Amen.
